Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

Laos is today at the crossroads of a continental ASEAN in full development. It is one of the fastest growing countries in the world, in a sustainable way. It is a country of trade and a gateway to the most dynamic part of the subcontinent, the “Greater Mekong Subregion”.

To promote the strong points of the relationship between France and Laos, and the interest of economic and political players in increasing their presence in the "Land of a Million Elephants” I launched, thanks to her Excellency Ms. Claudine LEDOUX, French Ambassador to Laos, to the French business community and the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the organization of the second edition of the Vientiane Rendez-Vous, which will take place January 23-27, 2017.

Our action is strongly entrenched in a bilateral relationship, and is thus supported by the government authorities and the Vientiane Capital municipality. And I hereby wish to pay a tribute to the Mayor of Vientiane, Mr. Sinlavong Khoutphaythoun for his commitment to our action.

The list of companies or institutions that have joined our action or will be present in one way or another is growing every day: the French General Confederation of SMEs, the French Foreign Trade Advisors Committee, the Francophonie Business Forum, French and the European Chambers of Commerce of Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, The Lao National Chamber of Commerce, the City of Paris... Jewels of our economic patrimony such as Air France, EDF, Bred Banque Populaire, Essilor, Airbus, SDV, Yves Rocher, Lactalis shall be participating to demonstrate the interest of the event... And many other lesser known businesses who nevertheless uphold the banner of French initiative and know-how.

Our meeting is part of concrete actions and the everyday life of businesses. It's not just another event but a gateway to a region whose vitality is entirely part of our economic future. Together we must promote French excellence! Let us all benefit from the development that we have helped to create. A century ago, we missed the opening-up of Japan, 50 years ago we missed the awakening of China… Today let’s not miss the ASEAN challenge for the future!

Looking forward to your help and participation, I do hope to see you at our forthcoming French-Lao week,

Alain Daout,
Chairman of the Organizing Committee
