The second edition of the Rendez-Vous de Vientiane will take place from 23 to 27 January 2017 in Vientiane as a demonstration of the friendly relations between France and Laos, the European Union and ASEAN, and will cover economic, environmental and cultural events organized around the following generic theme: "Laos, a Gateway to ASEAN".

Designing a sustainable tourism industry in an emerging destination

OVERVIEW
The UN has declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, recognizing that international tourism plays a major part in “…in fostering better understanding among peoples everywhere, in leading to a greater awareness of the rich heritage of various civilizations and in bringing about a better appreciation of the inherent values of different cultures, thereby contributing to the strengthening of peace in the world”.

Building upon this commitment and recognizing the extensive work already underway within the tourism industry in Lao PDR, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is holding a special tourism-development session to examine key areas of support required for the continued sustainable growth of the industry, including tourism marketing, human capital development and public/private partnerships. Bringing together key stakeholders from Laos PDR and abroad, the session will highlight the current landscape through the perspective of the public, private and development sectors, while allowing delegates to participate and share their insights, experience and ideas to collaborate on delivering a tangible plan for the way forward.
